Custom Motor Drive And Ballast Test Equipment

Challenge: Find AC loads for ballast testing and loads that simualte a motor drive that are programmable, reliable, and accurately simulate field conditions. And they must be low cost.

Analysis: Being specialists in motor controls and ballasts, Intellicon had problems finding test equipment that met the niche markets we serve. Every off-the-shelf solution required many modifications and additional components such as capacitors, filters, inductors and diodes to adapt the devices to these applications. Even then many of these modifications did not work, and we were left searching for another solution.

Results:Intellicon Engineers took their knowledge of custom controllers, the dynamic AC loading requirements for ballasts and designed a programmable AC load to meet the unique test requirements. This ballast was so superior to what was available, our customers requested units to meet their own testing needs and the I4C500 Resistive Load was born. This load was very popular but a step-child to our product mix. It was sold to an AC test equipment manufacturer and contineus to be sold today.
